Engine install

(1/1)

Bookmark1:
From your experiences what is the best way to install a full engine into a bare frame? Is the “lay it on its side” method recommended or is there a better way?
Any advice gratefully received

Nurse Julie:
If the engine is complete then yes, lay frame over engine. If the engine is not built yet, build bottom end, place in frame and then build up from there. If you have help, it's pretty easy to lift complete engine in frame if you're careful to not scratch the frame. Luckily , with the 500/550 there is plenty of wiggle room in the frame, unlike the 750's.

Bryanj:
Remove sump, top breather cover and if possible exhaust studs to make it easier.
HINT
fit airbox, carbs a manifolds with onlt lower rear bolt fitted makes it easier, then swing engine up at front to fit other hardware.

Spitfire:
After years of lugging 750 engines into frames I used the frame over engine method to fit mine after a restoration and it was so simple.

Cheers

Dennis
