By the sound if things, it sounds like what i am looking for is a Cibie unit
Similar to the concave unit in my RD400. If so i think i stand more chance of finding Lord Lucan.
I suppose i could go the LED route.

If you are handy enough to make an adaptor ring the small car one can be made to fit, its slightly too small,
Any old british 4 headlamp car used them

I see DSS have a H4 unit for the 400f.
Do you think this would fit the 175 dia etc?

Unsure if the ds one needs adapter (thought the 400/4 shell is odd man out in diameter) does you one in Yamaha fit into the CB 175 shell ?

If so........you may be able to by a very good replica to match that one https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/233096661808 these are, I think, direct replica of that older unit.

The original conversion light unit I believe was a "CibiĆ© Bi Oscar" and originated as peculiarity of FIA rallying rules at that time. They restricted the amount of lights/bulbs that could be used in competition with each lamp generally having one filament and lens dedicated to it's beam pattern as consideration in making those rules. 
This one, Bi oscar, had both fog (used as dipped beam) and long range spot (used as main beam) combined and fitted to a single lamp shell subsequently making it suitable for adapted kits sold to bike riders.

The link should give you the correct lamp but would need checking to ensure it's what you need. The 7 inch reference is for the outer shell diameter and not the glass (see disappointed view lower down) as a 7 inch glass unit lens is denoted as "Super Oscar" by CibiƩ which is the really big type you see on period ford escorts etc.

Thank you for your very detailed response. Its the adaptor ring thst bothers me. As i cant think if a way of making one.
I have not tried the Cibie out of my Yam. As i only realised there was a lighting upgrade required this week on the Isle if man.
