Engine paint
« on: September 04, 2022, 01:00:02 PM »
My BiL visited today showing me some photos of the early Fireblade restoration he is doing.
He used this engine paint the results looked fantastic.
I'll try & get a photo from him to post it looks brilliant I might be tempted on the 500 project when it arrives.

This is how it looks - much better from a short distance away. The paint colour was developed for painting US V8 engines.
With all the body panels in place it will not be very visible though.

That looks like a good match to the original colour Ted. Did he take the engine apart to paint it and did he oven cure it?

Looks a little like gunmetal to me Ted. Not that I dislike gunmetal, it's a great colour for an engine.

The engine was out but painted assembled with some masking etc as it was in good condition.

The paint is for "Drive Train Parts " - they advise either oven bake or paint & leave to dry for I think it was two months for standard air cure - so my BiL says.  Will fully cure with engine heat as well.

In the flesh it looks really better than the photos hiding any surface imperfections due to its semi-matt finish. Very hard to describe but looks brilliant. He painted the frame with the same type of paint  but in silver.
