How do I get these out?
« on: October 18, 2022, 03:41:38 PM »
I have a couple of partly rounded off Gallery end plugs - are replacement available?
I may have to hammer a 13 mm socket onto a sloppy 14 mm fitting to get them off.

Secondly how do I get this screw out that holds the steel oil guide in place Ive given it a tap & pushed down hard but it will not budge - reluctant to use impact tool except as a last resort not sure if its a JIS PH3 or JIS PH2 end?

Managed to loose a fork clip when taking out the drum... not going as well as it was.
Might have to do a fingertip search of the garage floor as magnet trawl has not found it.

I'm walking away for today.

Little advice on getting the oil gallery plug out of the main gallery under the crank, the one below the rotor. These have a small end on them and a lot of people use that to pull them out but TBH it's not the best way as they do get chewed up doing it that way.

I found removing the plug from under the points and then using a wooden piece of dowel to drive the other end out was far better. A 3ft piece of 1/2 dowel (I'll measure it to be certain)seems to work for me, also has the advantage of pushing out any sludge etc that is living in the oil gallery.

Replacement 14mm gallery plugs are available IIRC, not cheap though, 15331-300-000, are around £20 each believe it or not. Some people say don't use an impact driver to get them loose but TBH I've always done it like that and never had one crack or round off because of it.

Screw for the oil guide, yep, same way. If you round it let me know as I have some spare. IIRC it's a JIS 3.

Oh BTW, if you need some oil gallery plugs I have some available somewhere. Both types.

Agree. The hex head on the plugs is not very deep and likewise in spite of a warning, I've used an ancient Vessel hand impact on them.

Oil Gallery Caps out used a 14mm 6 sided 3/8 impact socket from a set I had forgotten about. Attached to a cordless impact driver - out without additional damage. Just the JIS screw left for tomorrow. Thanks for the tips - end plug tapped out with an ultra long Phillips - I bought it for removing front panel screws on my old Manta about 30 yrs ago.

3 down one to go.

Cheated a bit I asked Marco who had downed his Spinach to try to undo the JIS screw in the casing. He used my JIS tool & a pair of mole grips attached to the shaft for leverage - out it came👍 looks like a self tapper not a threaded screw.

I did help I stopped the casing from moving.  ;D ;D ;D

I see what you mean Bryan hole looks like a thread - screw is p/n 93901-26110 Screw Tapping 6x12.

Is it what we would call a tapered thread like some gas fittings?

It is more like a self tapper as the crankcase is not threaded when new
