OUT AND ABOUT 2023

First ride out this year, a trip down memory lane, parked outside the village pond opposite the farm that is now a holiday let.
The wonky looking house on the right was my home as a teenager. The stains on the tarmac where I parked the bike are not mine.
In the summer of 1976 the pond dried up for the first time since before the 1900's, my brother saved the fish that were transferred into the cattle troughs in the farmyard.

I had forgotten how much my hips hurt when I ride a 400 - definitely too small for me.

1976 was a mega hot summer, remember it well as I was taking my bus test in the middle of the heat wave, I was supposed to be on my holidays but swapped them in order to go into the bus school, of course when the time came to take my holidays the heat wave had ended, went on for around 10 weeks I think.

1976 was a mega hot summer,...

I was a soldier in Gibraltar at the time. I came back to the UK ( Hastings) for two weeks or shooting (no proper ranges in Gibraltar, no room for one!) It was hotter in England than it was in Gibraltar! They weren't screaming about global warming though.

That is just too pretty to sell! I thought that was the wonky house pub at first, but it burned down.

I was a soldier in Gibraltar at the time. I came back to the UK ( Hastings) for two weeks or shooting (no proper ranges in Gibraltar, no room for one!) It was hotter in England than it was in Gibraltar! They weren't screaming about global warming though.

It was the year I met Wendy, no rain to speak of for almost  4 months, hosepipe ban, all lawns were brown, all cars covered in dust. I think the weather broke in late October.

1976 was the year that I did my A-Levels and finally got up the courage to ask out the girl in the 6th Form that I fancied.

We have been married for 42 years next week.

April 1976 was when I traded in my much loved CB750K1 and bought my CB750F1.

1976, I had just failed all my CSE's, except Art, and left school at 15 😂😂😂😂😂 Life got better after that.

1976 and I was in a mixed comprehensive school in Acton. It was time to make the third year choices for our future career. All the boys were marched into the assembly hall where a chap dressed in full RAF uniform clip clopped his way to the front and told us what a great life we'd have if we joined the RAF. The glamour, I was ready to sign up for a 9 year stint there and then. 'Any questions boys' he said, 'Yes sir' said one boy, 'What planes will we fly'. 'Fly' he said, 'Oh no, you are not educated enough to FLY, you'll be ground crew'. With that my future career with the RAF was over before it had even begun 🙁. Two years later I joined London Transport as an apprentice coach trimmer, fantastic job and never looked back😁
