Apparently so????

Because it's well known that if you don't use TEC points there is a very good chance you'll struggle to get the timing to set correctly, especially on 2-3 as you use up all the adjustment doing 1-4.

Cheap budget points have the pivot pin arrangement skimped on and that's most likely why they twisted out of shape.

BTW I found that dwell meter, I'll take it up to Nigels and test it against my other, so long as both work you can have it.

Bloody marvellous on both points fella’s. Thankyou. The plate is deffo TEC and they came on it so had no reason to not think they were legit. You can tell by just looking can you?

Good info

If the points are genuine TEC ones they'll be stamped and the back plate has a sort of chequerplate design imprinted on it.

BTW genuine TEC points are mega expensive now. I sold a pair to Matt for his bike a few weeks ago.

Pics off DS website.

TEC https://www.davidsilverspares.co.uk/graphics/parts/30204300154_large.jpg  £36

Copy https://www.davidsilverspares.co.uk/graphics/parts/30204300154P_large.jpg £9

Compare the way the contact plate is attached to the moving arm, the bushing on the pivot pin is not as good as the TEC ones.. Note the design on the plate.

They must have had a knock and I hadn’t realised. The gap I was setting was at the front where the back side was miles away causing the issue.

Gained about 8mm of  adjustment on the back plate slide and two n three needed a bit of a shuffle to set but reasonably happy. I’ll see what happens when I fire her up and point the strobe at it. I think it’ll be out but if I can get it better I’ll have a go.

I just managed to source 4 pairs of 1-4 points and 2 pairs of 2-3 points. Australia and Canada. Still cheaper than buying from DS.

Good man, theyre pretty extortionate from DSS arent they? Bryan says he has a few sets lurking so I'll rplace them when I get a chace and get up there.Possibly when the jaw has gone down a bit, still quite swollen at the min.

They are only going to get dearer Roo, buy them now and store them is my advise. Why do you think I have so many parts in the loft? thinking ahead all the time. If I see any part going dirt cheap I'll buy it and store it, some I sell for what I paid and some I make a decent profit on, depends on who I'm selling to. Even DS hasn't got any 1-4 genuine TEC points now.

Was trawling the web last night looking at the amount of points that sellers claim are genuine but ain't is worrying, look at how the contact points are attached to the plate, genuine TEC have a sort of collar around the point plus of course that pattern on the plate itself, no collar, no pattern, it ain't TEC then.

TBH it makes buying the Hondaman system more and more attractive, you need to replace points far far less with that piece of kit fitted. Or you could always fit electronic but if they fail or get damaged your stranded, I once dropped the 500 when I was 17 and it slid across the road, mounted the pavement and then re-entered the road. When I got to it the points cover was just mangled into the points, the advance/retard unit bolt was bent, I still rode the bike home on 2 cylinders as one set of points was completely trashed, you can't do that with electronic. Electronic is fine so long as it works, you can't bodge it though, it either works or you walk.

I found 2 NOS condensers the other week, snapped those bad boys up as soon as I saw them.

I’ve a spare condenser but only one but several plates to cannibalise but sadly no points. I’m hanging fire to fit the Hondaman set up until it’s run in then I can sort things a bit easier and leSs to go through should summut go TU.

What do you need for a set Bryan?
