I use a hot air gun to soften the rubber, even a hair dryer will do but will take a bit longer.

I’ve manage to get the old shocks off, it was just a case of more muscle.

Could anyone offer a bit of advice with the next step?

The new shocks are slimmer at the top than the originals and come supplied with three washers, these take up the difference to pack out to the end of the mounting post and allow the shocks to be fitted nice and snug, firstly is this ok and secondly, where would you fit the washers?

On the inside of the shock, on the outside of the shock, a mix of both????

Hope I’m making sense. I’m over thinking this now!

Here’s a couple of pictures to show the difference between the new and the old.

Assuming the bottom fitting is the same on both - I would measure the width at the top of the original shocker (including rubber) do the same for the replacement subtract the difference and divide by two - this would give you the thickness  for the inside that would make the centre point of the shocker at the top mount the same.

Alternatively just pack out on the inside until the damper sits in a vertical plain - should be the same both ways.
