Sheesh, £30k - I used to own a red one and to be honest, I thought it a death trap. Remember getting into a weave on the M11 and that made parts of my body pukker. I met a guy in Feltham at the time who had NO'd his bike - nutter of a bike.....
Can't remember the reg of mine otherwise I'd look it up.

It took me a while to work out what NO'd meant. Maybe I've been inhaling too much Nitrous lately? 😁

I used to live in Feltham in the Eighties, small world.  I didn't have the CBX but I did build a beach buggy there, a blue GP long wheelbase. Those were my hang-gliding days, used to put it on the roof of the buggy.

I don’t just get the back story that goes with this bike.

Why would Honda build 41 prototypes of the bike and then give them to dealers, surely a prototype is to test the ideas and technology used within the bike and to evaluate those parts and how they work together in a controlled setting such as the factory test track? Any changes required would then be made to the original or a second prototype built and so on until the designers were happy with the end product. Why build 41 prototypes to the same configuration and give them to dealers? I assume the dealers would not allow the public to ride them on the road but to just look at them which would then call into question the logic of Honda to supply the bikes with ‘sand-cast’ engines and not the finish as would be applied to production bikes. The finish on the engine of the bike for sale does look rough and if I had been in the market for such a flagship bike at the time and was shown this bike I would have changed my mind!

If the bike is a genuine prototype surely Honda would have known that not all 41 bikes would be scrapped and especially considering the CBX was ground breaking when it was released.

I’m thinking this bike is not a prototype in the true sense but a pre-production model and as Ken pointed out, would Honda be allowed to claim the bike back as I presume the dealers they were sent to didn’t actually pay for them, they were for display only and therefore remain the property of the Honda Motor Company.

What I find odd is that Queens Park Motors, the biggest Honda dealer in the North of England didn't get one of the 41, maybe it was limited to 1 per country? and of course they'd pick a London dealer if that was the case. Clive the owner of QPM would almost certainly have sold it, biggest crook on the planet.

You could look at the economics another way..... 43 yes old, if you bought it new, arranged for competent storage at £10 a week, didn't run it or possibly insure it......then that wouod be £22,360....... take that from the price and it's not that bad  :)

Would it go down or up now though ? That's from here onward.

Not sure how much a nice CBX sells for today - I suspect you could buy a tidy one for under £20k with change to spare so not sure it's worth £10k extra for what looks like a dull finished engine.

Ted Ted Ted. How long have you been on this site? Should know better. Sandcasts are to be cherished. That engine finish is its "raison d'etre". Just sit and stroke it with a smug look! The 10k is worth every penny.

All this is said with the tongue fully lodged in one's cheek! ::)
One day I'll have the time to restore it, not just talk and dream....
