I got my Viton from this place, but sit down when you look at the price of a sheet

Already seen that Max but I can't find the small strip you appear to have bought.

I've found some in China but it's £267 for a 500mm x 500mm sheet, far more than I would need.

Be wary with any from china, i bought a bit and when it arrived i checked the density and it was nitrile or something similar, not viton. I had to message them to get a price for the strip

I've emailed Dennis Winter to see if any of his will fit, will let you know if and when they respond.

I wonder if anyone on the forum can do a CAD file for the damping rubbers, I'm talking to a water jet cutting company near me about doing some for me. The only problem is the diameter of the cutting head is 1mm so there is a 0.5mm difference which I suppose would need to be factored in.

I'll have to see about opening a CB500K clutch basket and seeing if they are the same as the CB550F, I'd imagine so but it's best to check beforehand.

Just done some quick calculations, a 1000 x 1200mm sheet of 10mm Viton is around £900. That would produce approx 1470 of the small discs, depending on wastage etc so say 1400. That approx 233 sets of damping rubbers, which makes each set cost approx £4, so it depends on how much it costs to cut the dammed things. Correct me if my maths is wrong.

A problem you might run into is that it can be really difficult to develop the parts if you aren't making them, it took probably 5 or 6 attempts with small changes each time before mine fit well, which is fine if you have the equipment but is a pain going back and forth with a company. Best bet would be to do 10 or so different designs first, get one of each cut, and see which fits best, then modify from there if it needs it.

Hi Max.

Apologies this has taken so long but I forgot to give my BIL a call when he returnd from Holiday!
My BIL’s company is called  Delta Rubber and is located in Christchurch, Dorset.

I called him earlier today to see if he had any 10mm sheet. The thickest size he has is 8mm but he can potentially get some 10mm sheet but it will depend on how much you need (I know it is not going to be a huge amount).

He asked if you can send one of your existing new cush rubbers to him he can then match up the density and go from there.

His details are:

Martin Bailey
Delta Rubber Limited
Unit 21, Priory Industrial Park,
Airspeed Road
Christchurch, Dorset
BH23 4HD
Telephone: 01425 278 011

Martin works Monday to Thursday.
Give him a call, he’s very helpful and knows his products.

PS - I hope he can provide what you need as I am going to need a set of these rubbers for the 400/4 I am buying to restore :D

Does he cut rubber as well Dave or just provide sheets?

No news from my water jet person, I've sent him another email to remind him.

He does cut rubber Ken but not on a water jet or laser cutter, he has a very high tec cutting machine. Apparently you shouldn't cut the modern rubber products on a laser cutter due to the very toxic fumes it gives off.

He maybe able to do that Ken which is why Max will need to contact him and send him one of his cush drive rubbers that he has made. Martin can assess what will be possible from this. I do know he doesn't have any 10mm thickness viton and will have to source some but it will depend on how much is required and this may be the hurdle Max has come across, manufacturers are not keen to only supply a small piece of a material they have to gear up to produce and are potentially left with unsold stock. It also has to be remembered my BIL is running a business and at the moment he is running absolutely flat out. He is though willing to help if he can and if he can't do it I doubt if anyone can given his knowledge of the industry.

It would be great if he could also produce some for the 500/550 clutch hubs as well Dave, unfortunately they ain't the same as the 400 ones, plus the only ones I've got are old ones and it needs to be made to fit the hub etc. I could send him the relevant pieces though if that would help.

I can get the 10mm Viton if he's struggling.
