Such a lot of hassle for a 15 minute repair with a insert. Which is stronger than the original alloy thread  ;)

After a fighting effort, progress stands at all but a rusted/dissolved fastener that’s soaking in Gas Gas penetrant along with the centre stand bolts and one stubborn bolt holding the LHS footrest hanger on.

One necked off bolt sadly,  on the other side but everything else is off now and the bike is free swinging from the ceiling ready to have the lump out tomorrow evening with any luck. By far THE most complicated thing I’ve ever worked on and a right challenge but surreptitiously enjoying it………sort of

I am running out of biscuits however!

Now that's what I call a unique business opportunity for someone. Open up a biscuit and cake shop next to Halfords and other bloke type shops such as Wicks etc. A sure fire profit earner. Forget the patisserie and latte shops in Westfield, what blokes need are real biscuits, cakes and tea😁.
Sounds like you are making good progress Roo. Like all these jobs there's always the hidden nasties to deal with along the way.

Hidden nasties and a ‘triping’ error in the service manual meaning that if you undo both rear mount bolts the sodding frame separates from the subframe hinging the bike in the middle. When you’ve got it suspended from the rear end and jacking it from the front it’s a proper yikes moment!

There’s actually only one rear mount bolt not as it was written , described as ‘pairs’ of engine mounts, eg, two a side.

It wasn’t until I released the centre ones that the whole lot went down with a thud…..eek!

Had to put a 3rd strop on a further roof support support to move the fulcrum point to bring the two halves together and after a bit of head scratching I sorted it but it put an extra hour and a half on my night

Thought it was going to be a pig and up until that point it was going relatively well. One necked of bolt from the centre stand and the 8mm nut attaching the cable to the starter motor was solid so had to be surgically removed with the Dremel to cut the nut in half but not too bad.

Got to clean the motor off and then the interesting bit starts and I’ll attack the head.

Phew!

Cheers for all the best wishes peeps, really appreciate it
