Cam chain tensioner.....

Got ready to assemble crankcases and noticed the thread for the camchain tensioner was huge and mullered. How any PO could make it so bad?
Anyway, It appeared to be a (poor) 10mm x 1.5 thread so re-tapped and then made a suitable sleeve for the 6mm tensioner bolt. It feels secure, anyway

Of course, the tensioner thread is now little too short but as I'm about to make some new tensioner bolts, I'll make one a little longer. I'll make a small recess for an O-ring before it gets an application of Loctite.
Is there a reason the locking part of the tensioner is M8 - ie a larger thread?

Look at noxandrattles.co.uk , they do a complete repair kit in stainless

Sorry about that. I'm interested in the condition of the 'horse shoe' was it moving freely, they have a reputation for seizing.

I have looked at 3 'horseshoes' and they all suffer from seizing due to  the camchain lashing itself against the shoe and deforming it (Not an exhaustive study, I know!!)
I modified the one from the bike and it is nice and free. Not only that but the plunger had burrs on it and the hole it slides in was scored. The plunger was cleaned up and the hole reamed.
Just need to make the modified bolt and I can resume the build.....

Thanks Bryan, that is basically what I am doing - in stainless as well! I still ponder whether it is necessary to have a larger thread for the locknut but I'll do it anyway....

The aftermarket one sold by DSS professes to be better than the original on the account that it has been modified with a copper bush added to it to alleviate the problem of seizing.

I have of those one but decided to modify the existing one.

I do not have the luxury of that type of equipment nor the skills to use a lathe.

It's taken a lot of time to master my Buffing wheel - I'm still at the first year apprenticeship stage.🤔🤔🤔
