Kick start spindle

Hi. The circlip on my kick-start spindle has come off and all the parts ended up in the oil pan. Can anyone tell me does the ratchet guide rest on the gearshift spindle to disengage the ratchet itself when under tension? I can't see any other place for it to sit! [ Guests cannot view attachments ]

You must always replace the circlip on the end of the shaft with a new one or it will just come off again

There is another circlip on the shaft, not as vital but maybe think about replacing that as well. Don't forget the large washer goes on between that circlip and the casing, a lot fit it wrongly or just forget.

All done and working thanks. Not an easy job doing it from underneath the bike on the side stand. I had to use a piece of fishing line to hold all the parts on as they just wanted to slide off the shaft!  I then fitted the circlip and pulled the line out once done. Thanks again

Very clever use of the fishing line, every toolbox / workshop should have a reel 👍👍👍👍
