Could you not just run a normal tap down the hole and make it like the stainless one you have?

Pretty sure you're right BTW, M6 x 1.00 sounds right.

I could but I didn't fancy getting swarf inside the arm. Anyway, biking/bikes curtailed for a while as I almost cut my thumb off on a table saw and I'm now feeling rather stupid at my carelessness and sporting a rather lrge bandage on my hand!  :-[

I was remarkably calm considering the blood that was flowing! Even managed to drive myself to A&E.
All stitched up now....

Many years ago when removing rear wheel bearing from a triumph t140 after a liquid lunch my left thumb got trapped between the speedo drive flange on the hub(about 1/8 thick steel and a rapidly moving lump hammer, i proved you could get a 1970 3.0ltr capri round a right angle turn at 60mph with 4 people in it!

The downside nowadays is that as well as the nerves on the end of my thumb letting me feel what i touch so does the scar half way down tell me its the end of my thumb

My late Father-in-Law cut off his  thumb & part of the adjacent two fingers  when cutting up timber on his Petrol driven bench saw in the garden. At the time he was a Drayman for Allied Breweries - the hospital stitched the bits back on but his thumb was a sold fix as he lost the joint. About 6 /8 weeks later he was back at work! Back then he had no safety guards on his 40 year old saw.

Sounds bad Matt hope it all heals up soon.

I recently gave away my Bosch Disc Cutter as it has always scared me when cutting Slabs & Pavers as it was impossible for me to hold it steady when I pulled the safety switch to ON,  the torque was just too much for my aging arms. I was always afraid of cutting off a toe! I bought it almost 30 years ago to cut my garage roof tiles with so it owed me nowt.
