Please tell me they are best painted not polished !
« on: September 12, 2023, 02:30:13 PM »
After yesterday's euphoria realised today that I had not polished the cam cover partly as there are some marks on the end cam bearing faces so was not sure if I needed to find a better one.

I have been advised that the upper bearings are not as critical as the lower ones in the cylinder head as the camchain & rockers  push down.
The middle two journals look okay to me there is some radial scoring on one end in particular.

Bearing photos to follow.

Number 4 is the worst bearing methinks.

You can polish that Ted, however it's an intricate surface so best painted IMO. I might do one to see how it looks but I'll probably end up painting it afterwards.

Shame about number 4 journal surface, but it's usable.

I'd be tempted to dress that down a little, just on where the really rough areas are. Just in case it touches the cam.

I will definitely clean up the outside before I paint it - I was thinking painting is easiest tbh.

Not sure how you dress down a journal how do I do that please Ken?

Just get some really fine wet and dry and take off the high points of that damage Ted. Use oil on the wet and dry.
