There's been a few on moto-X bikes over the years.

Chain driven often seen on Yamaha YZ490, Ohlins made Hydraulic drive front hub, think again seen on YZ490 and think on Yamaha 1000 Road bikes.

A few around and tested by magazines etc. It'd be interesting to ride one and find out what it's like.

Hub electric motors would seem to be made for this.

Didn't mention the ceramic pistons that Honda tried to make work but never could..

I was referring to the Rokon Trail-Breaker  ;)
It's chain driven FWD is unique...
Hydraulic (or electric) FWD's are more an "assisting" propulsion...

I must admit to wanting to have a crack at that snow mobile, that looks fun.

I'd also imagine it would get up hills even the Rokon would balk at.
