If the starter was spinning it could not have been "burnt out" but maybe the reduction gearing in the nose was bad

I thought that odd as well - not quite the same but I had a dishwasher pump that spun nicely on testing except the the pump shaft was stationary with the central armature/rotor windings  spinning on the shaft!

We did have a pump on a ship where the shaft snapped halfway through the pump so couldnt tell it wasnt turning

Language issues mabe, this is London you know. Maybe it was a case of cutting a long story short? Whatever, I did a 12 mile 'veterinary run' through central London today with no problems except traffic so all is well for now. I wonder what else she has in store for me?  ;D
