Interestingly I have in the past done the same, now I try to always tick the save to outbox.

Oddjob:
If you go into your profile/account settings and select modify profile, then select personal messaging there is a check box in there for always copying the message to your send box. Just tick that box and they will always be saved. Saves trying to remember everytime.
