Odd looking at the brochure how Honda adapted the wording to suit the market. In my UK parts book Starlight gold is spelled like that, but on the brochure it's spelled Starlite, plus colours doesn't have the U in it. That's clearly a European market brochure though as it mentions a passing light switch which of course the yanks didn't get. Also missing the grab rail.

Got to say most of the rats I've seen were grey, wonder why they didn't call it Battleship Grey instead. Saw a modern Honda car in that colour a couple of years ago and it looked awesome. One of my C50s was rat grey, great colour

Ooops! Opened a can of worms! Think I’ll stick with my original preference freedom green metallic. 🤭🤭

Only good clean fun banter Johnny  ;D ;D ... Freedom green metallic will certainly be cheaper than candy although I am not familiar with it.
Indeed Ash! Freedom green metallic was available to the early CB550 and also the Cb750 but possibly the American market. It’s a nice deep green. Apparently RS Paints hadn’t  heard of it either but after contacting them they asked if I could send them something with the original colour, but I don’t have anything available to send.

Yamiya do the Freedom Green kits. Not a colour we had in the UK model range but quite popular in USA.

I think I may have cover for The 500 in that colour you could borrow, that I will eventually paint Starlight Gold.. Problem is ..last time I loaned RS a NOS part to match, they subsequently lost it and made no apologies for doing so.

Thanks Ash! I think once bitten and all that. No apologies either!😡😡 I will try and source from elsewhere rather than risk any precious parts going astray or getting broken. Especially someone else’s parts.

Hi ... One option is to take panel into any decent paint shop and get them to scan it to get a formula. My friend did this with his 'Gentle Maroon Metallic' for his CB250K4 (on my recommendation because RS paint was mega expensive for that paint scheme) and it turned out great. From memory 500ml  of basecoat (thinned makes 1 litre) was about £23 inc VAT

That kit you linked has 1k lacquer .. I always use 2k either Mipa or 2k in a can Spraymax both give excellent results and E10 fuel resistant.

You can borrow my panel if you like (assuming colour is correct). Here it is.

Never even thought about that Ash, I could probably source locally in which case I would take you up on your kind offer of borrowing your side panel. There would be no rush as I wouldn’t be painting until the summer time. I will send a PM.

Hi Ash and Johnny,
If there is no rush, then my Cousin will be visiting - probably in the Spring and he lives in Anlaby High Road, not far from you Ash.  I know he would be more than willing to collect and return the panel to save possible loss in transit.  He will be coming by road and via Inverness, so it could be arranged for him have it analysed at Dingbros and paint collected.  Graham at Hatston was talking about investing in a colour analyser - I'll find out if there is any progress.

Fantastic Ian, and most helpful! Spring time would be great and certainly wouldn’t be needing before that.
Does Eddie have an analyser Ian?

I'm not aware that Eddie R has one but Leslie will know - he's coming here tomorrow with lots of AJS bits for me to assemble - wish I could retire!

The other option Johnny is to get it scanned and formulated at APS in Hull and just buy and send the paint. That's the place my mate got his Gentle Maroon Metallic paint from. They deffo have a scanner. Ian it's on Cournenay St Ind Estate. They would probably post it too as they post all of the time.

Hi Ash,
That was another thought - I have bought from APS before and I'm sure cousin Neil would pick it up from you, have it scanned at APS on his way to visit his Mum in Hornsea and return it same day.  Then Johnny could liaise with them and have the base coat (and primer if special) made up and delivered.  I'll speak to Neil and pm you for contact - did he ever pick up or drop off at yours before, I seem to have some vague memory?

I think you have to leave the part with them for a few days Ian..they won't do it the same day. I am always going in there as it's not too far from my mates warehouse on Wincolmlee where I do my painting. Why don't I get some paint mixed and then your cousin can pick up the paint from me. I don't think he has been here before though Ian. Alternatively, I am sure APS would post it as a lot of their business is online these days.

I would need to know the paint quantity though. My friend bought 500ml (thins to 1 litre) and that did his CB250K4 fuel tank, side panels and fork ears and fork lower shrouds. I honestly don't mind doing this for Johnny and it saves posting a panel backwards and forwards.
