CB500K1 Headlight, European spec

Bryanj:
DS only lists the US one but he stocks the UK one as well--usually complete with rims

The original on my CB550F1 was so much better than the 6v item on my CB125S, but nowhere as good as the headlight on my mum's car. So I bought a sealed beam unit from Halfrauds & it fitted straight in.

When I changed the Stanley H4 unit on my 750F2 I put in a Cibie Z beam unit. Whereas I thought that the H4 that was OEM on the 750F2 was good, the Z beam was a revelation. The H4 unit ended up in Teresa's CB550F2, where the CB550K3 comes with one as standard. I'm sure that the item on the CB750K7 is a Stanley H4 as OEM. The much deeper shell on the 550K3 hides all of the electrical connectors, which on the CB550F1 & F2 were all hidden in a small plastic box near the left hand fuel tank mount.

When the 750F2 went to a double headlight fairing the Cibie Z beam unit went onto Teresa's 550F2.

I have a Cibie Z on my 500/4 (Silver Machine)

Unfortunately it's a European one and dips the wrong way - requires copious application of black masking tape each MOT...    8)

I have a Stanley H4 and it is literally brilliant  :), and I think is the original fitting.

Some years ago the sidelight bulb blew so I removed it.  The sidelight is not required for the MOT but if a bulb is present it must work.

One should never ride with the sidelight on, it is for parking only.  If, like me, you wish to ride with the light on use dipped beam.

So, as I never park my bike on the road at night, I do not see the point of a sidelight at all and do not intend to replace it.

K2-K6:
As some of the above, I've used Cibie Z beam which is a really good light but I don't like the pattern when it's leant over (good on a car as the reach on dip is really good in not going toward oncoming traffic but still shows road edge well) as the cutoff is so sharp and the Stanley H4 has more spread to cope with this. H4 has the best main beam for a single unit I've ever used without auxillary lights.

Don't think you'd be dissapointed with either though.
