Just googled the population of Shetland & it brought up a map showing some odd place names including Twatt amazed there is a population of around 23,000 never imagined you had Taxis but knew there were few trees.

i live in the main town,  population of maybe 7500, its quite a small town,  can ride aright around it in less than 10 minutes really lol.  once you get out of the main town and onto some on the quieter roads there is some good riding to be had

Would that be Lerwick perchance?

Not forgetting Nether Peover!

The F2 has a reputation for wearing out exhaust valve guides plus the spring top caps ans collets are poor quality so it is not unkown for the collets to pull through and a valve to drop, you need to pull the enginge and thoroughly inspect the head, plus you dont know what previous owner(s) have swopped and messed with

Fantastic roads, scenery and people in Shetland Ted and just like Orkney, even electric light!  Simmer Dim and Shetland Classic Motor Show should be on your bucket list!  Twatt here in Orkney too - even worse, an Upper Twatt!  You folks in Englandshire have Peover, Littlehampton and Slaughter as well as Cridlin Stubbs and Tolpuddle, so we're even.

Ian

i often hear or see many visitors to Shetland saying the roads here are some of the best in the UK.  some nice country twistys with no potholes lol

My favourite names are Lord Hereford's Knob, near Hay on Wye and Brown Willy on Bodmin Moor.

For fans of Ogri there's Kinnell, just up the road from Dundee.

How much is the ferry for a bike these days Johnny?

Might have a few days riding around the isles this year.

From the mainland of course.

Hi Ken,
And a very Happy New Year to one and all.  There are 3 ways of crossing to Orkney - I prefer the Scrabster to Stromness route (90 mins) but there is also Aberdeen to Kirkwall (7 hours) or Gills bay to St Margaret's Hope (about an hour) run by Pentland Ferries. The first two are operated by Northlink Ferries.  There are pros and cons with all.

Some prices for Northlink

We can get a discount for 'Friends and Family' if there's only a very small number of travellers and I don't think they offer that in high season.

It would be great to see a few of you up here and apart from great scenery, roads, good food and drink plus lovely folk, there are many toy cupboards to visit.

Not as dear as I expected Ian. The Aberdeen route has the advantage of being almost the same cost but reduces the miles needed to be traveled considerably and of course the cost of the petrol to cover that distance, the downside of course is the time it takes to cross but put that against the time it would take you to travel to Scrabster from Aberdeen it’s not a problem.

I’d like to stay a few days to see the island, what’s best? Book a hotel, b&b or maybe Airbnb? Is accommodation expensive?
