Thanks Julie. The finish on the 'spring' appears to be bronze or suchlike with BZP ends (or is it rust as it appears patchy but maybe that's the light reflection in the photo?). This is a very similar finish to the DSS part.

My memory is that the spring was a blackish finish. Possibly black passivate Dave. May have a spare.

I fitted the DS spring Dave - it is as you say a sort of Bronze colour - my old one was badly rusted and had been painted with black Hammerite. Main reason I fitted it was for heat shield purposes  so it sits at the bottom at the carb end.

My hose is overlong as I have an alloy bodied inline filter that sits under the seat so there is a loop of hose before it goes to the petrol tank to avoid kinking.  Routing position was a copy off a members 400. In-line filter is probably an overkill I was worried about bits of tank corrosion dropping off and blocking the carbs - we all know what a pain it is putting the carbs back in place.

My first cheapo plastic fuel filter fell apart so some revision was needed.

This is what the original one was like on every 400/4 I have owned (i.e 4 of them from a '75 to a '78 reg'd)

I didn't see that on the Yamiya website Ash. If it's not to late can I order one of those please with the head gasket?
