Not really a bike but it has two wheels - future project.

I owned a Maico Letta back in 1965/6 in the same colour it was an A plated bike registered in Manchester so was the last of the 250 2T single cylinder scooters - 4 speed floor change with electric start etc. The only photo I had of my bike was lost in our house fire.

It was far superior to my mates Triumph Tigress 250 twin in terms handling & ride due to the much bigger wheels - the Tigress was very quick up to 35 mph but the Maico was long legged and would just keep on thumping along to a tad over 70 mph with ease. I had the mandatory pair of Lucas spot lights mounted on a front badge bar. Great weather protection also fitted with a gear indicator in the speedometer plus an electric clock. My previous scooters were a couple of Capris & an oddball Viscount Prior.  The Maico was the Crem de la Creme (except for Heinkels) until I bought my Triumph Twenty One complete with original Bathtub weather protection.

I've joined the Maicoletta FB Group - Nostalgia is an illogical motive to even dream of buying one as spares are pretty scarce.

They were originally built in Germany so they might have been part of the old Auto Union Group of companies that were later bought out by Audi who reduced the number of circles in the logo down from 4 to 3. Apparantly when they stopped the supply of scooters to the UK they were built from parts somewhere in Manchester by the Importers according to online myths.
