Hi All,
My name is Paul, I am one of them old school bikers, been on bikes 30 year.
Just got an old wreck of a CB550f2 man you should see it, its in a mess. I want to chop it, but need help with motor parts en-stuff so I need some experts, on these fine looking machines.
Bikes at the moment - Harley 1200 sporty 93, MT500 85, Suzuki DR125 84 and know CB550f2 77.

Hi paul plenty of people on hear with f2's, me being one of them it is getting quite hard to source  new engine spares for these bikes , but some of the hard to get parts like valves and pistons can be bought in the usa, and other parts from dave silvers in the UK and cmsl in holland i think, good luck with your project, it would be good if you can load up some pictures for us to see

Hi Paul seems to be a few of us 30 year+ old school fellas on here    you should be able to make a nice chop out of a 550/4. I've got a hardtail XS650 along with a few other bikes. Good luck with the build up

Keep us posted on progress, I used to have a 550/4 chop project but given the bumps in thr roads round here and the unknown provenence of the hardtail welding I got rid (also no papers), but I still have the battery box and lecky box somewhere in the spares shed, along with a few spare engines and bits.

Matt you have no sense of adventure!!! just run a 5.00x16 at a lower presure for the bumps and there are several ways, some even legal, of circumventing the no papers bit

have the funny size rear tyre, and a standard frame I could mod as a hardtail, I'd rather do my own welding though. Just got far more project than time so that was one that got sent by the wayside

I have a complete 550 engine in my barn. It hasn't moved for years and could be a good source for parts.

The internal condition is unknown.

Steve I might just be after some of them bits.
Got the engine stripped and inside don't look to bad, seen a lot worse.
Snapped 6 out of 12 head bolts and now see you can't buy them, sh8t more work, unless you gents know different.
Tried to post some pics but it won't let me the files are to big.

Do you mean the cam cover to head bolts?

Hi Bryanj,
The main 12 bolts that bolt head, barrel and case together front row are 125mm long and the back row are 145mm long. These have an 8mm tread so could use treaded stud but nice to have the right thing because there stretch bolts and waist in to about 6mm (could turn my own). There not under much load 14 to 16.6 ft lb. So I would like to buy because of ease rather then need.

Unfortunately those studs aint available from Honda any more but if you go to our sister US site ther is a man on there who is making/sellig Heavy Duty studs

Hi Paull.

I have just read about your cylinder stud problem & of there non-availability. I have some heavy duty studs left over from my CB750F2 days that can be made to fit if you need them. Just let me know the sizes that you need & I can turn them down to length & rethread them. There're 16 on the 750 so I have more than enough for what you need.
