Third gear dog CB400F

<< < (2/3) > >>

ozzybud:
The 3 nubs on the gear are the "dogs"
the selector is called the "fork"
Thet "socket" gear is called countershaft gear.

It seems clear to me what he is after. As The dogs are what get rounded and cause problems

Bryanj:
I know what the dogs are BUT the dogs that make 3rd gear work ARE NOTon 3rd gear and may well be on the countershaft gear not the mainshaft gear.
You need to sort out exactly which gear is damaged and locate it on the parts diagram.
I been doing these a long time and the bits you need are simply not that obvious, no matter what you feel like it should be called

ozzybud:
Thank Bryan. Just trying to help.

Thats why i sent a couple links with pictures so he could see and be sure he could see what he was after.

Did you buy the one on Ebay that i send the link for?

It sold a few hours ago

Bryanj:
No problem with pic you posted but you should note that in most cases of rounded dogs the gear with the holes needs replacing as well as the edges get sloped.
Gearbox problems were and are one of the most difficult to sort out.
We had an XS 1100 jumping 3rd gear under warantee with no visible signs of wear anywhere, yamaha said change everything, shafts, gears, shims selectors and drum. It took 6 months just to get the parts!
