400 Keyster Brassware.

(1/1)

McCabe-Thiele (Ted):
When I bought my 400 it came with quite a few new parts still in original packaging mostly purchased ten or twelve years earlier by the PO.
The Keyster Carb Kits receive generally  poor reviews on this site
My 400 came with a full set of Keyster Kits that were still boxed.

At the time I was pretty much unaware that Keyster parts were considered poor quality. My 400 runs fine on the Keyster parts so thought I would ask if others found them okay. I am aware of  members who have found them a problem.

Has the quality dropped in a decade or is it a quality control issue?

Laverda Dave:
I fitted Keyster kits to my old 400 Ted and the carbs would not stop leaking. I changed the float valves out for the old ones and the leaks stopped. I now re-use the old original brassware even if it means a lot of fine cleaning to get them back to a decent condition. I also use clock cleaning fluid (as recommended by Alan Millyard) for the initial clean and prior to using the ultrasonic bath.

McCabe-Thiele (Ted):
Have you found any problems with the main jets & needles Dave?

I also replaced my floats with a set from the US can't remember the brand/supplier.

taysidedragon:
I bought Keyster kits from DSS for my 400 and they've been fine.

I suspect cheap offers of 'Keyster' kits on Internet from unknown sellers could be Chinese copies, just like fake NGK spark plugs going around.
