Is it safe to grease the CB500's clutch pushrod?

(1/1)

deltarider:
I often wondered: what can you do to get the CB500 clutch operation as smooth as possible? For instance: is it safe to grease the pushrod with brake grease or is it better to stick to oil?

Johnwebley:
Oil, it should be lubed by the oil in the engine,

I use a HMP grease on the worm drive, because it gets very hot,

Also make sure the cable is smooth, some you can oil, some you can't

On my 500 I greased the push rod section that sits outside the engine  oiled area behind the sprocket cover as that was well rusted on my old pushrod. Not helped by the inside case chain protector bracket being missing allowing any water to splash pretty much everywhere.

I agree with John about the grease on the adjuster spiral.
