Gas dripping from air filter box
« on: August 11, 2004, 09:04:41 AM »
Lately my 1971 750 four when I go out in the morning to start it drips gas out of the air filter box.  When I try to start it,  it will backfire & pop.  Once I ride it for a mile or so it seems fine.  Next morning same thing?  Any suggestions out there?  I appreciate any help.  Thanks a bunch!   Andy

Sounds like you have a float that is stuck or a leaky petcock.  You should get it checked out, it is possible that gas is leaking into the engine and either diluting the oil or in some cases, leak into the cylinder, when you go to start it, liquid does not compress and you can twist a crank.
