Madgrandad:
Hi all,
I'm restoring a 1978 CB400 4F and I'm onto the wiring. The previous owner botched up the wires by using any colour, I have put it back to original colours as per manual. My question is I can see how the rear indicators are earthed but can't see how the front is earthed? Manual shows Light blue / green on right hand side and orange and green on left hand side, I only have one wire coming from each indicator?

Does anyone who owns same model live near Southport, Merseyside so I could have a look?

Thanks in advance ☺️

McCabe-Thiele (Ted):
If memory serves me correctly the front indicators are earthed via the main mounting stem that is metal.
Inside the headlamp on each side is an earthing plate that is connected into the wiring loom earths.

I fitted the chromed plastic ones fitting my own earth wire to the bulb holder threading down the hollow centre.

If you look in the parts book (downoadable here) it is shown in detail. Personally I like fitting an additional earth wire to all four indicators.

Laverda Dave:
Spot on Ted.  The rear indicators are earthed via a cable connector onto the tang welded onto the indicator mountings.

My rear tangs were rotted out, a PO had drilled a hole in the mounting bracket with a screw fitted to one, hence I fitted seperate earths.

Madgrandad:
Ted, so what your saying I have to solder a green earth wire to the inside of the indicator earthing plate and run that to the loom?
