500 original dimensions Gear Lever question?
McCabe-Thiele (Ted):
Can someoone tell me what the distance should be between the center of the gear shift pivot shaft to the end of the gear change lever where the little rubber sits in cm or mm please?
I'm asking about an original lever for dimensions please.
flatfour:
I can tell you that after the splines on my 500/4 gear lever became worn, I fitted one from a CB750 K2, which worked perfectly well in terms of bend angle and length. At the time, the item for a CB500/4 was unobtainable from any of the usual sources. I intended to find and fit an original, correct part when I could source it, however things looked fine and worked so well that I left it all alone.

The one fitted to my 500 was 5" between the center line of the shaft & grip shaft pivot ignoring the curvature/bend angle.
I sourced a 'reproduction' lever from Itally the same dimensions are 4.25" so it has a greater clearanace at the alternator housing so gear shifts should be easier with my size 12 boots being 3/4" shorter.
I would be interested to find out how close it is to the original in effective length.
Bryanj:
That i cant tell you Ted, it was one from my magic box of assorted bits, may even have been a new pattern one from the USA
Seabeowner:
Just measured my two 500s, 10cm as near as dammit.
Also from surface of sprocket cover to metal of lever at the foot end 5-5.5cm
