It will be interesting to see how much that sells for. I was discussing current bike values with a dealer friend of mine last week. He told me the market has crashed for classic/old bikes. He's hardly sold anything since the election, people are holding onto their money. It appears the investors have also caught a nasty cold as well with a few immaculate bikes being off loaded very cheaply. As he said to me though, it's not the first time, it goes in 10 year cycles and the market had become overheated driven by high property prices and investors turning to bikes and cars because they are VAT free (for now!) unlike art that is subject to tax.

Good job my bikes are a hobby to keep me occupied in my retirement not part of an investment portfolio.

My BiL has been off loading his bikes steadily over the last few years not as he is tuned into the market but he wants to move into a bungalow so lucky timing.

Whilst looking at my 500 project amongst the  meandering thread I found this quote.

"I think we are all bonkers here Roo we spend more on restoring an old bike than they are worth  when completed (aside from a few Dodos). It's a labour of love Roo and we all know how stupid we can be when we are in love."😁😁😁

I'm not very worried about market prices, I've restored my Elen bit by bit over the last six years, the longest I've had a bike and I think she will be my last now unless something nasty happens. Not for sale!  ;D

I see some adverts saying things like (and I paraphrase here), ' don't worry about your pension...invest in something gold-plated....motorcycle..etc..'

For me, and for lots of us here, bikes are just fun/hobby/ moneypit etc..

A good friend of mine bought a Facel Vega 500 as a driveable investment. After a few years he sold it at a small loss (no figure revealed) as with his oily rag Ariel Leader a loss. He then bought a Jag  E-type that he had restored he has been running for the the last 4 years or so. He now is looking at selling it - be interesting if he recovers his costs as he hopes it was a canny investment.

Best thing about a bike is a lot less money is generally involved.

I advised Wendy that if I fell off the perch first the sale of the 400 should cover my disposal costs. If the market drops it might cost a  a 500 as well. 🏍️🏍️🏍️
