Front mudguard stay - 550/750
« on: October 13, 2024, 08:14:20 AM »
Not desperate but has anyone got a decent front mudguard front stay for 19" wheel.  I have dressed the dent out of the front end on my guard but it is still noticeable.  Although mine is a single stay 550F1, I figured I could hide the marks with a front stay without shelling out for a new twin stay guard from DS.  So it's only a front stay I'm after.

No rush Bryan,
It's ok as it is for riding but it's about the only part on the whole bike with an obvious (to me anyway) blemish.  It really did turn out to be a cracker that I got from James.  I have a stay for a 400/4 which I could use with a couple of lengthening 'tabs' if all else fails.

Hi Ian ... I found this in pic below....  it came off a £3k mile import BUT it's for the early bike with small mounting holes. Yours would have had the larger holes with rubber mountings etc.
I have a new mudguard for my '71 CB500K0 but it's the late 750 type and it has the large holes in the stays ... so if this one cleans up OK ... chrome is really nice and it should, you can have the one off the new mudguard as, if I use it on mine, then some nitpicking pedant anorak type (like me  :-[  ) is bound to bleat on about it not being correct for a K0 model.

Whatever, you get the 'ull 'friends & family' discount discount of 100% and free postage  ;D

It was great talking to your cousin when he picked Johnny's paint up from me.

Hi Ash,
That sounds a great solution!  I don't mind which I end up with - I have said previously that the single stay arrangement always looks like there's something missing.  Cousin Neil also enjoyed meeting you and having a yarn.  I'm still struggling with this Sloper for a friend here in Orkney and it's still occupying my bike bench and stopping progress on other stuff!  He might buy that Sloper from Charlie for the missing parts - not sure I approve really.

Anyway, many thanks for the offer - surely worth a forum donation from me!
