Avon or Bridgestone
« on: January 06, 2025, 09:01:25 PM »
Whilst I was in Derby for a routine blood test I popped into Bob Minions as I know the service bloke there. He has done me a quote to supply & fit a set of tyres on the Superdream wheels.

I'm unlikely to ever reach the limit on the tyres, my pet hate is tramlining. The Bridge stones are BT46R & L303F, Avons are Road Rider MK2.

Wondered what members here think?

This is a neat 500 restoration in the USA.

I have Bridgestones on the 350 Morini as reccomended by the MRC and Road Riders on the 400/4 and the Triton and I can't tell the diference although the Morini and Triton handle as though they are on rails but then I'm not one for getting my knee down either unless I'm in the process of falling off ::).
In my opinion they are both just as good in the rain. I don't know if Avon have changed the formula for Road Riders now the wiltshire factory has closed, maybe worth asking? I would go on price and previous experiance between the brands (and others views).

I've got Roadriders on my 400f as well. Really good tyre, no issues at all.

For years I have run Avon's,

They always felt good,

But since they closed the UK factory I lost my loyalty,

Fitted Bridgestone BT46 about a month ago,

Only ridden about 60 miles, just scrubbed them in, and they felt great,

So far very good,

For the Bridgestones I just wonder why you have gone for two different tyres and not BT46 front and back, maybe no size available or you want the old fashioned looking tread pattern of the l303.  The Bt46 are radial tyres I have no idea if the l303 is cross ply or radial.  Anyway interested to know.
I am a big Bridgestone fan, I have always run BT 45  (forerunner of the BT 46) on the CBX, they perform well when you consider the narrow tyres (120 rear) and size, power  (100 BHP) and weight of the bike.  The bike will squirm around a bit when crossing white lines in the wet if the tyres are getting a bit worn but I think it would do that with any tyre. You need a relatively loose riding style with the CBX.
I also use Bridgestones on my modern bike and on my RAV4. So I am probably a bit biased😁

My mate at Bob Minions tell me the Bridgestones are an approved supplier?
