Is anybody else or is it just me that buys parts in advance then misplaces them then orders them again not fully aware that I already have them somewhere?😡

When I was re-building my 400 I made a few duplicated purchases,  I simply forgot I had already bought them due to the time scale, nothing too expensive fortunately.

I'm now much more organised,  on the 400NA Superdream I have my trusty XL spreadsheet of parts I have removed, where they are located. I put a note on the spreadsheet if I have ordered a replacement, I also keep a record of new parts already ordered & where they are in my garage/loft/ office storage. Being fully retired I am time rich so I quite enjoy updating my parts location spreadsheet.

I know sad eh.

Oh, yes. I’ve done that a few times. Certainly taught me the importance of making lists of parts, sources and where I’ve stashed them. Having recently completed my seat refurbishment, after sourcing some replacement seat strap for that I’d lost, I promptly found the ‘lost’ strap this morning on top of the wardrobe buried amongst some parts for my Triton!

As my GF gifted me a number of robust, stack-able plastic containers we spent 2 days over the Holidays finally sifting through various cardboard boxes, sorting numberless bags & items, and logging all my NOS Honda spares into a spreadsheet, so I gain an overview about my stocked items in order to avoid mentioned over-ordering the same things, double, triple, quadruple, five-fold, etc...
Found like 9(!) clutch server gaskets, 7(!) sets of ST1100 hub dampers, 4 sets of head bearings, 2 sets of fork bushings, one complete clutch set, etc, etc, etc... 

But CMS is really helpful for ID-ing part numbers, description/dimensions and applicable models...

Thank god it’s not just me!😳 I feel a whole lot better after reading the above. Spreadsheet sounds like an excellent idea! If I just consolidated all the bits and pieces I have ordered into one container that would be a great help. I hate to think what it would be like if I had several projects going on at the same time. 🤪 Note to self - get your act together!

Anyway Johnny, guilty as charged here too but worse than that is that I know EXACTLY where that illusive part is that I bought, I can even picture which shelf it is on - trouble is that was at the last house we lived in nearly 20 years and 500 miles ago!

Oh yes! 550 side cover grommets ordered just before Christmas, nowhere to be seen now.  They were by the kettle in a jiffy bag last time I saw them.

My weakness is keeping the tired old parts I've replaced. Can't bring myself to sling them, in case the new bits are poor and fear of needing them the moment I get rid. Boxes of the stuff now.
