CB 550K3 1978 USA seat cover
« on: January 08, 2025, 10:30:27 PM »
I`d like to replace a seat cover on my imported CB550 K3 but couldn`t find any for sale online here in the UK.

It`s a dual seat type year 1978.

I found few for CB750 same year and they look very similar but I couldn`t find any measurements online to compare them.

Can anyone help please?

Mine is a dual seat, there are only the flat ones available online.

Do you mean the type that steps up at the back, that was USA only for last year of production.also known as a k4, will have to order from an American supplier as I did a few years ago.
Love the 500 and 550 have a 500 called Lazarus under restoration

I agree with the above, don’t think there was any K3’s that had the stepped seat.
1952 Cymoto on Triumph bicycle.
1961 Matchless G3
1974 Honda CB550K1. Undergoing restoration
1978 Honda CB550K3.
1999 ST1100 Pan European 50th Anniversary.
1975,1980,1984,1986 Honda C90’s
1973 Honda CB750K3
1977 Honda CB550 (almost)

Yes, stepped seat.

Well mine is apparently K3 manufactured in Nov. 1977 (1978 model) but it also could be a swapped seat from a K4 model?

Can you remember which supplier? What was the quality like?

I just don`t have a good experience with ordering stuff from USA.

The stepped seat was only on the 78 model which yours is and was known just as a K model with no number after it. A 77 model (manufactured late 1976) is the K3 that has the normal flat seat. To confirm, your engine and VIN number should be in these range.
frame range   CB550K 2100001 - CB550K 2122082
engine range   CB550E 2100001 - CB550E 2122090

Okay it makes sense now.

Vehicle dating certificate and V5C both say that it`s a K3 model.

So is there any chance that both stepped seats (1978 CB550 and 1978 CB750) would have the same measurements? Couldn`t find any specs for CB750 online.

Thanks

Very doubtfull as 750 is bigger, you should be able to fit a flat K3 seat if necessary
