New sponsor here?
« on: January 10, 2025, 07:21:43 PM »
Just noticed our new site sponsor, does this mean the members discount has gone Julie?

I'm after a couple of screws for the inlet manifold guage vacuum point on my 400NA, not sure if they are the same thread length as the 400/4?

They are not Ted, 400n is 2mm longer in thread length, 5x8 as opposed to 5x6, I’ll send you a couple of stainless steel ones foc, I’ll put them in the Drexel flexible drive box when I send that.

Thanks Ken,  the screws are M5 x 8 mm - I think p/n 93500-0508-OH.
I don't see the length as too critical as it's just blocking up a hole!

Weirdly the length is critical, too long and they protrude into the air/fuel flow to the cylinder, this can cause turbulence and affect the way it fires. One of the tricks Mark Paris (Hondaman) advises is to trim the screws until they are flush with the manifold. The 500/550 suffer with this problem.

Saved my first post for you Ted, my comeback champion  :) :)

You have been missed Ken, welcome back.

PS obviously if too long it would mess up the air flow, not sure if too short would create a venturi vacuum, thus turbulence.!,😁😁😁

I fit them, see if they protrude, trim them and then use a Dremel to shape them to the airflow, on the 500/550 I use those discs to smooth out the extremely rough interior of the inlet manifold to aid a smooth air flow, not too smooth, you want a very small amount of turbulence to assist the mixing of the air/fuel. The faster you can get the fuel to the cylinder the more power the engine makes, it’s only a few bhp but they all add up.

Cheers Phil and all those who messaged me.

Hey, Ken.

To save me searching, can you remind me of who can supply me with a 3 line brake pipe solution for my 550. I’m using the traditional/original solid pipes to the calipers. Was it Hel?

I ordered mine from Hel, I’m still using the metal hard line from the caliper. Not fitted them yet but they look ok, my last ones went straight into the caliper and did away with the hard line part. Think they were Goodridge.
