ebay at it again.
« on: February 03, 2025, 07:14:22 PM »
Anyone seen the new chargers for buyers from private sellers coming. Seems there is a 4% charge +£0.75 to be added to items listed by private sellers. So in reality they have moved the charges from the seller to the buyer over these last two charges. Also think there will be a delay in payment until the item is delivered.

It was to be implemented from tomorrow but Ebay have just announced that the 'buyer protection fee' will only be on Electronic items from tomorrow, all other categories will gradually be included (until ebay change their mind again 🙄🙄🙄)
That's just one of many changes ebay are planning, including not getting paid until delivery confirmed by tracking or feedback being left or after 14 days if no feedback or tracking confirmation . They are even taking control of posting, under the 'Simple Delivery' scheme.

I didn't know 'feedback' was so involved Julie. I rarely do it anymore because I buy a lot of things on eBay and it is such a pain!  :o

Thanks for the up-date Julie...a saving of 4% + £0.75 on sales...I'm guessing that it will be implemented on all private sales in the near future. If items are sent by tracked/signed them payment is made 2 days after delivery...waiting 2 weeks for payment if the items are sent by normal post?...seems a bit long?
Thank heavens - eBays overseas sales -  Global Shipping Program. Payment is made 2 days after it reaches the UK collection point.., not on final delivery in outer Mongolia.

It's going to be the buyer that pays the 4% +75p Al when buying from private sellers. I think it applies to all items over £10.00.It will all be shown as one final total before the buyer clicks the buy it now button. If the likes of you and me reduce our prices to take into account the new fees the buyer will pay, so the buyer pays the same price as now then yes, in effect it's us the seller that's funding the new Ebay protection fee.

Thanks again Julie, I did not read the buyer protection scheme properly, is this how it works...it seams that a listed eBay price of £295.00 the buyer will also pay an additional (4% + £0.75) or £11.80 + £0.75=£12.55...customer then pays £307.55 @ checkout!
Apparently, If your a business seller, then the buyer protection scheme is free of charge!...I think eBay is trying to convert us to business sellers.

Yes, buyer protection fee is already covered for business sellers.
I'm ready to jump over to business seller status but I'm waiting to be pushed 😁😁😁.
To be honest Al, I'm sure your customer base is similar to mine with very genuine buyers and a lot of repeat business and we both offer outstanding support and backup, more so than many business sellers so our buyers on Ebay already get a high level of seller protection. I'm not sure about you but at least 50% of my sales are on sales platforms other than Ebay with direct contact from FB groups, professional restorers, forum members etc.

Yes, very similar business, with around 35% of sales on eBay. I also have a web site and supply 2 Kawasaki re-sellers, so I'm not going to apply for a eBay business seller account as yet. It will be interesting to see if the customer pays the extra £12.55 on a £295.00 sale?...or buy the same thing from another vendor for £295.00?
