Indian made tanks
« on: Today at 04:29:03 PM »
my 500 four tank had leaks from areas that could not be accessed to solder, so reluctantly had to use a liner. Although I have not had any issues with leaks I was disappointed with the paint finish and was quoted £500 to paint it. I have seen tanks made in India advertised at reasonable cost but was unsure what the quality would be like and online chat had mixed reviews. as I have been selling some bits on ebay and had some spare cash I bit the bullet and ordered one. There are lots of companies offering what seems to be the same product, at different prices, so I chose one that had a few more sales and reviews. They are Royal choppers, and were very helpful when I asked for a black one when the advetised one was red. It was about £280 inc postage, and in my case no import charges. took slightly longer to arrive than stated, but when shipped on a friday via Fedex it arrived on the following wednesday.so whats it like? first impression was good, shiny paint slightly marked by packaging but did polish out. filler cap included was a monza type, not original but ok even if to my mind it should be the other way round! fitted on the bike fine but when you look carefully not quite the correct shape. Honda badges fitted on ok but again not quite straight. so far so good, then tried to fit the original tap but found the screw holes were the wrong distance apart. I contacted them and they said this was the way they produced them and would send me a suitable tap. I have sourced on in uk anyway and fitted today with no issue. oh by the way its made out of alloy so no rusting. so would i recommend? to be fair, its decent for the price, and for a rider rather than a showpiece its fine. for a concours restoration not so much. with some tweaks to the shape it would be even better, plus they coud make the fittings to fit an original type cap. all in all value for money.

i've seen some on the www, interesting to read your first hand experience.

Looks good value for money, i'd be tempted to buy one for my 400/4 as its cheaper than having my existing tank painted, not listed on the ebay shop.
