best model info book

hi all i'm a newbie from up north well dependin where your from sunny rochdale well 1 day a year if we're lucky just bought cb750 1970 in need of restoration gatherin info at moment bit confused bought honda cb750 super profile book says mines the cb750 before the k0 and they were only in red and blue mines gold which is the best book to get that is accurate.

John Wyatt's book is the original one, but out of print now and costs a small fortune.

The K0 did not really exist as the first 750's were simply called CB750's.
K0 came about from the states as the later bikes had a K suffix, (K1 etc) they chose to define the first one as K0.

All really depends on the frame number for the actual date.
CB 750's appeared in 1969, but without looking I am not sure when the arrived in the UK. I will have a look in the morning

First officially  imported in January 1970 Build date. October '69 (1st UK one VIN 1010369 mine is 1010382). Genuine UK bike will have an oval rear lamp like the C50 step-through and unique mudguard with four lamp bracket mount holes. Gold bike never available in the UK as a CB750 (first model called 'K0' by the Americans) and we never got any for general sales with 'Sandcast' motors.
All genuine UK bikes were either Candy red or candy blue/green paintwork. I think the domestic Japanese market had gold ones though. Domestic Japanese model will have a a red warning lamp in the top yoke (speed warning indicator).

If you trawl the American SOHC4 site and the Sandcastonly site you should find out all you need to know. (or ask on here - ChrisR is the real guru on these bikes and is a member here). John Wyatt's book goes for silly money I am afraid, as it is reported to be the book with best detail on models etc.

Hi Ogre, here's a picture of my old bike to give you some ideas, it was a greeny blue one, most of the 750 Hondas around here were the same colour, never saw a red one, bought this one in 1971, the year after I bought a K2, they were all gold round this way.

Having had a read of JW's book, He credits the K0 as the transition bikes. There were 121 (may have to recheck that number) of these that arrived in the UK and were identical to the CB750 except for the throttle setup. The K0 had the cam type and not the 4 separate cables. His book claims that Honda UK confirmed the designation.

As for colours, again his comment is that they were available in green and red. Candy gold was also listed, but he commented that he had not seen one.

Yes, at the time Bill Smiths called my bike a "transition" model as it had the latter throttle set up rather than the four seperate cables.

thanks for replies forgot to mention it was imported from the states registered over here frame no.cb7501037892 engine no.cb750e1038169 like i say it is gold white emblems on tank flat seat not ducktail got wrong clocks on i think white numbers does have seperate cables for carbs but ribbed filter box will post pics when i get chance.

Looks like a CB750, or K0 if you like. The K1 came in at frame number 1044806.
Date is 1969 to pre August 1970. Guessing as it is 1038*** it is likely to be a later one. I believe the only way to be certain is via Honda, who I believe charge for the service.

 ;) hi ogre  you just answered your own question,the gold CB750 was never sent to the UK,it is was a USA designated model and other countries ,so it probably was gold originally,the high frame number suggests its a late CB750 model ,and ignore the air box and twin cables  white emblems flat seat(all these are k1 parts BTW )they are easy to swap and probably was over time. ::) the more HONDA CB750 books you have the better  they are all pretty good as they say "knowledge is power"
