deciphering vin number?
« on: October 24, 2004, 03:54:05 AM »
Hi all I am new to this site and happy to be here. I just pulled my father in laws cb 750 out of the garage and we are going to do a full resto on it. I was wondering if you could answer a few questions for me, It is dated on frame date of manufacture as 9/74 does this make it a 1974 or 1975 bike? My other question is how do we determine the original colour of the motorcycle, can you read this in the VIN number somewhere? Incase anyone is curious the bike is flat black, with pitted chrome a harley back wheel and headers right now,it also has a pressure gauge to the right side of the engine(is this gauge stock?) It will go original if we can, please if anyone can help me out with these uestions I would appreciate it.

G,Day, the bike is a 1974 model, original colour is not in VIN number. Look under covers or under tank for colour traces, oil gauge not std. , get a workshop manual to familiarize your self with the bike before you touch it! if not for yourself , for the next owner!!!
Best of luck
Pablo
