eBay Bargain!

NOT

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/HONDA-500-4-/200576626757?pt=UK_Motorcycles&hash=item2eb34c7045

"4 into 1 motad exhaust , although not the original 4 into 4 , is better quality and lighter ! (original are still available" - I'm sorry, did someone say that a Motad is better than the originals?   :o

"Some very minor detailing still to be completed " - like the wrong paint on the tank and the wrong seat...

I don't normally comment on eBay auctions on here but this one just had my anorak in tangles...

This could be a case of "ask seller a stupid question" ( a game of fun and delight for all the family)
"how much lighter is the motad compared to the original?" Please could you state in troy ounces.
Or,
"I have an original tank and seat, will they fit?"
"Do you have any more in factory colours?"
"Will you be my friend on facebook?"
"The police have a vital job to do, will that involve picking fault with this bike should I buy it?"
Taking comfort in not owing China 75 Trillion Dollars.

To be fair, it is nice and shiney, but I don't think a tube of Solvol and a few hours with a yellow duster justify the outrageous price tag!

My great aunt's exploding undergarments!  Is this person completely mad?

People who over inflate motorcycle prices are the very people who cause me to be no longer able to afford a Triumph twin.

Still, I imagine it will never sell.

Talking of tank trim, I am extremely cross with myself for throwing mine away.  Fairly recently, I had a clear out in my workshop and threw away a complete tank with trim and the trim from my other tank just because they were taking up room and I thought I would never need them.  Not long after, I learned that they cannot be bought easily, and, what's more, a few years earlier I also scrapped an early 500/4 frame because it was surplus to requirements and bulky and now I'm on the lookout for another one. Arrgh.

Sanity IS subjective, but I agree about over-inflation. Why is it that we sane people can never get the price we think our pride and joy is worth?

A few years (OK, five) ago I let a beautiful T140V cafe racer go for less than the sum of the Unity Equip bits it was sporting, similar bikes are now fetching 2-3 times what I sold mine for.

I have also chucked away hundreds of quids worth of kit on the basis of "I don't need it so I suppose no-one else will want it either." only to find 2 years later said item is as rare as rocking-horse poo!

I used to live in a dream where I believed motorbikes were a cheap form of transport and I suppose they were in the past.  Motorbikes seem now to have been demoted to some form of leisure activity (shudder).

I have a shed filled with bits that no one else wanted off ebay, including a tank in red / gold with the trims for a 400/4. Only letting that go as a swap for trims for the 500/4 tank. One day I might try fitting the 400/4 trim to the 500/4 tank as I'm only missing 1 bit off there. Never throw stuff away, even cracked rear hubs are reuseable with effort and everything wears out eventually, especially tanks and frames. Only bits I've executed were a few superdream parts that were well past it (frame with numbers tampered with and rather dead engine) Store anything long enough and it will eventually be worth something as the stock of used spares diminishes.......... Ddd the bonous factor that I've over the years just kept hauling stuff out of the scrap for silly bits I'd not have thought to remove at the time, like the studs attatching head and barrels - I was going to throw the cases completly away but I've recently heard theose studs are NLA, pretty glad I didn't bin them now.....
Got a 500/4 with rust and a sidecar and loadsa bits. nice and original and been round the clock

One of the first things that I noticed was the non-OEM front mudguard. When I noticed one or two other items I did think that for that price the bike should be new-just-out-of-the-crate. But then, having bought the latest Classic MCM, the prices that some shops are selling 'Classics' for then this fleabay seller is probably thinking that he could sell his bike for a similar price.

What the shops advertise them for and how many they sell are different questions.

Frank in Perivale for example uses eBay as a cheap way of advertising.

cricky! just took a closer look and yea gods I'd be waiting a fair while before I got my money back on that one. Nice bike, yes but not 'that' nice, and alloy rims are a 'nice mod' but not original so detract from markett value. I could go on but really it's worth less than half that sum or the 2 ratters I have for parts are worth a grand each ::)

I've still got it!

The guy came with the money and a van and decided it was too nice and he'd never do it justice!   :(

So still for sale.
