front mudguard mounting 550f2

Can someone tell me if the left mudguard mount fits behined the brake swivel bracket
or bolts to the top of it.
Looking at pictures in my old manual [cb500] it looks to bolt between the forkleg and
brake bracket but i am sure on mine it was bolted to the outside of the bracket.

It should be behind, i.e, next to the fork leg, then bracket on top of it.

Thanks, it looks like the previous owner has bent the bracket and fitted to the outside.

I've just checked on mine and Steve (Florence) is correct.

If yours is the other way round the movement of the front brake caliper must be compromised (?)

No No No. The mudguard mounts fits on the OUTSIDE of the brake swivel clamp, fitting it on the inside closest to the fork leg will mean the caliper sits at an angle to the disc, this means only the edge of the pad is pressed against the disc, meaning you'll have spongy brakes and crap brakes until the pad wears down at an angle.
I've been a Honda mechanic for over 30 year and the CB500 and CB550 are my speciality, I've got 2 500 and 2 550s, all of them have the mudguard bracket on the outside.

Oh my golly gosh, I've just looked at mine and you are correct.  The mudguard is on the outside.  Humble apologies

Well the way the bracket is  shaped it looks like it should go on the outside and
i have found a picture in the CB500 manual showing it on the outside.
So i think Oddjob has now convinced me the outside is the way to go.
