70's Bike day at The Ace Cafe 17/7/2011
« on: July 14, 2011, 09:39:16 PM »
There is a 70's bike day this Sunday at the Ace Cafe if anyone is around there, perhaps an ad-hoc SOHC meeting?

Anyone up for it? I'm planning to be there from about 1 O'clock ish

Thought about going but the weather forcast is horrible. If it improves, we could well go, but in the morning as one of the group will have to be back by 12 to open the pub.

Pete, "If it stays dry"! that couldn't be further from what it turned out like.

I managed to get back home without a soaking, just mad traffic in Hammersmith.

Anyway good to see your F2 out there. That gave me a real jolt back in time to turn up and see an F2 especially in that colour as you don't often get them nowadays, it was like riding out somewhere back in the eighties with friends that had them then.

It looks really good too and well worth rebuilding, a very nice result for all your efforts.

Thanks, nigel, i got soaked through to the underpants on way home, bike cut down to 2/3 cylinders , when i hit a torrential storm just as i came out from the blackwall tunnel, poor old f2 was not supposed to taken out in the wet, oh well it wont be seeing any more wet if i can help it,
It was great to meet up again , and lets try and see if we can get a few sohc members to have a meetup at box hill sometime, i will start another post for that
There were some interesting bikes at the cafe, suzuki stinger, benneli 3 1/2, 750 kettle, kawasaki H2, a few aircooled RD's, norton commando, but not much else, i suppose the weather played a big part in keeping people from getting the bikes out, never mind it was still good to get out
LOL wasn't it funny when i overshot the red light , i thought you were going through on the yellow so i changed down a gear throttled up only to see you stop sharp, so to avoid hitting you my first reaction was to steer round you then brake, hence me ending up in the middle of some oncoming traffic ;D ;D ;D i hope there were no traffic light cameras there

All the lights seem to have a very short yellow time now. I looked at you in the mirror and thought you were too far away to get through as well so thought I'd stop, made me jump when you went past though.

You just don't want to hit the brakes hard in the wet though really although those new tyres should be ok, probably better than the originals were.

Originally it was always ideal to change to NGK waterproof plug caps to get them better in the wet but you can get some problems up where they come out of the coils and may need sealing with silicone to stop the sparks tracking to earth.

Thats a shame we missed you daz, to be honest i forgot what you look like, so there is every chance we could have been standing next to each other at some point, i hope the Calne meet goes well and the weather is good for you, might see you another time
