More E.U. Crap to try and ruin our fun
« on: August 22, 2011, 09:01:15 AM »
I don't know how many of you good people are aware of the latest barrage of anti bike legislation the E.U. morons are trying to batter us with, and although much of it wont affect us (Speed Limiters on new bikes!), a fair amount will, especially a ban on motorcycles over 7 years old from town/ city centres :o (emissions!) and compulsory wearing of full sleeve Dayglo jackets for all riders and pillion passengers :-[ (Mmm, wont that look cool on a  classic Honda?)It's another example of eurocrats trying to destroy our way of life, and if we DO NOTHING, it will be steamrollered through (Like the absurd human rights laws that allowed 2 child molesters to sue the government for the right to be allowed pornography in thier prison cells! >:() I'm not normally militant about things, but the Motorcycle Action Group is organising a mass ride/rolling road block to draw attention to this on September 25th, all I can do is hope as many of you as possible will take part and show how we feel about this. More info will be available on the M.A.G. website, also the Facebook page "The Devon Highwaymen" PLEASE check this out, and take part if you possibly can, this is getting frighteninly close to an outright ban on motorcycling (Which the E.U. would REALLY like) If you want to carry on riding your classic Honda, or indeed ANY older bike, DOING NOTHING IS NOT AN OPTION!

Too far for my little Honda but good heads up fella.
Cant see it happening tbh.
I sometimes ride in dayglo in any case...through choice, wouldnt want to have to wear a dayglow vest when I fancy a bit of Sabs T shirt and jeans riding
Speed limiters... I used to get off my blackbird and think "that should be illegal". If they do it to bikes, what about cars...wont happen and if it does it will be interesting to what speed they limit them too.
banning older bikes from town centres...wont happen...think about the policing of it...how can they enforce that pathetic piece of shit legislation

Thanks for your thoughts on this, there are groups doing this protest ride all over the country on that day, see M.A.G. website for your local area. As regards how will they police the ban on older bikes in towns/cities, our old enemy cctv, which is already used extensively for policing the congestion charge in London, and the low emission zone in London, anpr cameras spot you, and fine arrives in the post, the technology is already in place (see those little blue "coke cans" mounted on lamp posts all around the uk, they are anpr cameras to catch tax dodgers) big brother is watching us! And no, they probably wont force speed limiters on cars, too many potential votes to lose, whereas bikers have always been the minority, and unless we make a stand, THIS WILL HAPPEN >:( I urge everybody on this forum in the U.K. to check with their local bike club (even if you're not a member) about what their plan is for this protest, and join in, it's the only way to protect our future freedoms ;D

He's right you know!! London low emission zone is already policed for ANY vehicle classed as goods that cannot meet the limits set. The details are available from DVLA and vehicle traffic is recorded to enforce it.

The "blue bottles" are not the method though, think these are for in car nav systems of old that help report traffic flow from sysytems fitted to cars like vauxhall before more general sat-nav really took hold possibly called "traffic-master" or something similar.

The emmission zone is policed by equipment mounted in white tubes usually on a gantry and have one for each lane passing under them and record both entry and exit to the set zone. There is two sets near me on A3 at New Malden plus other local routes to give a catch all net.

I've sat with people writing algorythms for data/collection/analysis and they get really exited about this capturing sort of stuff which may seem quite benign at that point. But if you then put it in the scenario of that company selling a system for monitoring someone else, aaaaaaaaaaand then you've got to find a customer to sell it to, aaaaaaaaaaaaaaand then you get a polotician interested in controlling somebody elses life that has nothing to do with them, aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand they have a budget to spend or loose aaaaaaaaaaaaaand bingo we've all got a control slapped on us for no real reason.

It's a real enough threat that we don't need. Also many laws were and still are made from a human and moral standpoint/frame of mind that pre-dates this monitoring capability with no real absolute impassionate enforcement ability that criminalises many for no valid reasons.

Makes me mad!

I have never belonged to MAG, i prefer to be more of a free spirit and enjoy doing what i like on my bikes rather than belong to organisations,
however i am considering joining up and there is a good chance i will turn up at the m25 clacketts ride to add support, it seems to me that these
nob-heads, have to justify there overpaid jobs by dreaming up stupid restrictions especially the ones that generate money.
If you ask me our country is in a slow melt down and with ever increasing restrictions, price hikes, unemployment ,slack imigration laws, big brother watching us etc, i honestly believe the riots of recent were the beginning of worse to come as the problems  esculate, there are just to many negative things happening in this country, and picking on the motorcyclist may just tip me over the edge

I think we do need to stand up and be counted, thanks for the post hairygit it has opened my eyes

Thanks for that Pete. For the record, I am not a member of M.A.G. either, I'm another like you, do my own thing. But I was approached by some members of M.A.G. outside my local Honda dealers a couple of weeks back and handed a leaflet outlining these crazy ideas the eurocrats are trying to force through >:(, and I was so annoyed I had to try and get more people involved, hence the reason I posted this thread. So come on guys and girls, this will affect us all, we have to do something!

There's bound to be some sensitivity to any gatherings currently, so wise to move away from it if it's hijacked by anyone not interested in genuine and legal indication of feelings toward bike legislation.

Too true, we don't want  any idiots trying to hijack the events and turn them into riots! Although thankfully most proper bike fans will want it to go well and be publicised for all the right reasons :)
