Would this be similar to the assisted ignition system that the sainted Hondaman builds?

Wow!!! What a saving! Anyone that gives it a try should post their results for all to see.
Do or do not...there is no try!

You'd need to put it in something waterproof to make it reliable.

There have been similar systems (same principle) around for cars for years, "sparkrite" I think and you could switch them into and out of use.

I've used them (sparkrire) on V8 Rover engines that have one set of points for all eight cylinders and they do as stated here in that low speed running and starting is better by a worthwhile amount. Also reduces arcing and wear of the points so they stay more accurate over time.

Sounds a reasonable cost to try, you could make a small loom to be able to plug or remove them if unreliable.

Looks good in principle, but I get the feeling you'd need 2 of them for any bike with 2 sets of points, whereas cars run on 1 set with a distributor
If it's got tits or wheels, it's hassle, if it's got both, RUN!!!

There are several possible faults with the Maplins one

(1) You need 2 of them

(2) not waterproof

(3) designed for lower reving engine(s)

(4) Mark uses best quality Military grade transistors for consistency and long life. Maplins ?

Another recommendation is that if it wasn't for the fact i do less than 1,000 a year, plus having worked on Hondas in a dealership i aquired the "Knack" of adjusting gap and timing at the same time, mine would have Hondamans system on it
