400/4 Tacho drive
« on: June 29, 2012, 09:45:55 PM »
My refurb of the 400 is going relatively problem free, just finishing the engine build and I have just found a most annoying problem that I can't seem to fathom out, I am hoping it is not an act of total muppetry on my part!!!

On attempting to replace the tacho drive gear into the rocker cover I dont seem to be able to get the guide sleeve far enough into its hole to permit the oil seal to be fitted correctly. I have checked the hole - No obstructions. It came out when I stripped it all down and it dawned on me...should I have fitted the drive from the inside of the rocker cover prior to refitting?  !!!

I am embarrassed having to put this in the public domain!!!

Wincing...Expecting a barrage of flak!

Thanks

Yes, you should have fitted the oil seal first, then fitted the drive gear from INSIDE the cover ??? Not a major problem though, just fiddly putting the cover back on when you have fitted it properly :D
If it's got tits or wheels, it's hassle, if it's got both, RUN!!!
