oil leckage into alternator area
« on: April 06, 2005, 12:15:59 PM »
Can you help me with the following problem: In the generator house I have oil
(drops) I think it is coming via the cranckshaft into the generator housing. Before I take
the alternator out is it possible to repair this from this side or do I have to take the
whole engine apart? If I look in Clymer M341 page 96 (drawing 66) it shows the oil seal
but you can not see if you can take it out from the side?

When you say 'generator house' which side of the bike are you looking at?

Looking from the front, the magneto is on the left and the points cover is on the right.

Under the right cover and behind the point plate and auto advance mechanism is an oil seal, this CAN be taken out and replaced without a full engine strip.
