« on: December 19, 2012, 10:41:24 PM »
Hi everyone.i recently got my 400 engine rebuilt.it had a complete stripdown and rebuild.typical items replaced were piston rings, valve stem oil seals, all gaskets and oil seals.primary chain and cam chain.shell bearings were found to be within tolerance so were left be.my question is how many miles for running in and rev limits.look forward to your views.

Doesn't need running in as such  just don't labour the engine and stay within 3/4 of red line revs for 500 miles then change oil and filter plus re-check timing, tappets and cam chain adjustment.

Also never ride hard from cold

I'd second that as very good advice from Bryanj.

The only thing I'd add is to check the valve clearances initially by 100 miles to make sure that any bedding in has not reduced the clearance to insufficient levels.

Also as Bryan has indicated don't be afraid of reasonable revs as it'll assist the the rings to get established properly, giving a better long term bore sealing and longevity.

If there is something fundamentally wrong with any rebuild it'll go bang anyway so trust your ears each time you run it initially to make sure nothing is amiss.
