I am pretty sure if you fit uk handlebar switches it will sort it as the us version don't have an off position.
Love the 500 and 550 have a 500 called Lazarus under restoration

the wires for running lights  in headlight bucket  are orange/white  and blue/white   just disconnect from indicators.   that should just leave  orange  one   and blue one    one is the left  the other is the right.  cant remember  which is which  also  there is no off switch for headlight on the bars.  just hi/low.   for MOT  purpose  don't make any difference.   just that we don't have indicators lit   only flash.

I have found the culprit. In the headlamp bucket there is a brown/blue wire this is connected to the black 12v supply. This needs disconnecting and connecting to the feed from the switch. Thanks for your help everyone.
