....ready for spring..hopefully
« on: January 24, 2014, 10:29:35 AM »
well, after my overly ambitious idea of getting bike going for winter I have decided to fix all of those annoying things that had built up through neglect.

New brake shoes and oil filter arrived.  Chain and sprockets on order.  New tyre and headlamp fitted, just hope it will start after sitting under a tarp for a year.

That's more than you've spent on that bike for years!   Doubled it's value (?) :)

I know, I'm feeling giddy! ;D

(When you add up the cost over the last 18 years it has to be one of the cheapest vehicles known to mankind)

Interesting juxtaposition between "value" and "cost"...

When I used my 500/4 as my sole transport it was just as you say, one of the cheapest vehicles known to mankind. Even dragging a sidecar, mine went round the clock and in all probability if the clock had not internally disintergrated and been replaced and the miles I did with no speedo cable working. They are brilliant bikes in terms of quality and desighn. My 500/4 is a bike I'll never part with.
Got a 500/4 with rust and a sidecar and loadsa bits. nice and original and been round the clock

sorry Steve, you are right.

In value terms, it is soon to be a working vehicle which I will value much more than the pile of bits that it has latterly become. :-)
