scrap wheels wanted
« on: February 21, 2014, 05:15:28 PM »
Does anyone have a pair of scrap cb750 wheels (or just a front wheel) I could buy or borrow whilst mine are away at central wheels being built with alloy rims, I'm in derby but could pick them up within a 50 mile radius, central wheels have a 5 week lead time and I can't have the bike immobile for that long because it will hold the build up, cheers mark.

I have a very rusty front from a 500/550 which I think would fit.
Love the 500 and 550 have a 500 called Lazarus under restoration

Hi Mark,

Can you tell me what rims are you getting and type, size and width.  I'm ready to send my hubs away for lacing. I'm thinking of 18 front and back front WM3 Rear WM4 with stainless spokes. Any reason not to use hagon or another company?

Hi Gamma, here's a link that R1pete posted, I have bought a 2.15 x 18 front and a 3.00 x 18 rear, the front arrived within 5 days and is great quality, I asked the wheel builder what he thought of it and he said it was a nice rim, that said I ordered the rear about 10 days ago and it hasn't arrived yet, I'm about to contact the seller so watch this space, cheers Mark

I got the rim today, it had been delivered to my house on the 24th, 5 days after the seller had posted it, I wasn't in and the delivery person failed to post a card saying that he had taken it to my local post office (idiot), I contacted the seller yesterday, they gave me the tracking number which led me to it's whereabouts, all's well that ends well  :)

Hi Mark,

Can I ask what Central wheels are charging I take it that you bought the rims then sent the hubs and rims to them for lacing with stainless spokes?

£126 or £136 per wheel with stainless butted spokes (I can't remember exactly), I didn't think that was too bad really, I was going to have a go at lacing them myself but the spokes and nipples would have cost about £70 per wheel so it wasn't really worth the hassle.

Got my front wheel this morning, Central wheels have done a great job, it was £136 with polished stainless single butted spokes and plated brass nipples, I had them fit a tyre (Avon Roadrider) this took it to £207, (the rim cost £75 ebay).
